TWL Instant Message Movie Review: The Amazing Spiderman

The Amazing Spiderman (reboot) Instant Message Review
by T and HNB

T:  ‪So what did you think of The Amazing Spider Reboot?

There are some small spoilers in this review so please click Read More if you'd like those details after the jump!

HNB:  ‪I thought it was pretty good. Garfield was pretty good as Parker, although I thought he was a little too spazzy they make it seem like he's a genius, but they don't really show that much of his genius.  I would have liked to see more about the webbing development

T:  ‪What do you mean by spazzy?

HNB:  ‪it is one thing to be a nerd and to be a little sheepish, but he played it more spazzy
head tucked down, speaking softly and stammering to get his words out at least in the beginning of the movies and they didn't show him develop the webbing, only adapt the existing technology that his dad created and they didn't really show how he developed the web shooter.  did he steal enough of those cartridges from Oscorp for the rest of his life?

T:  ‪If you ask me, and you should, I think they should have avoided that altogether by keeping the webbing organic.

HNB:  ‪NO WAY

T:  ‪it always rang false in the comics -how could someone smart enough to make this amazing webbing have money problems?

HNB:  ‪that is one of my favorite things about spiderman

T:  ‪oh?

HNB:  ‪he created the webshooters and webbing, which was genius

T:  ‪yes, so why was he poor; setting up his own camera to get pictures of Spidey ‪and shilling to J. Jonah Jameson

HNB:  ‪because of where he grew up

T: oh?

HNB:  ‪he knew enough to borrow stuff from the high school lab to create that stuff and as he came across new villains with unique powers, he'd create a new type of webbing to fight that villain.  ‪I liked that, because it showed that he was always smart.  not just a strong, agile superhero.

T:  ‪in a whisper (if he was so smart why was he so poor)

HNB:  ‪not everyone is an opportunistic person like you.  smart = gotta make money

T:  ‪we simply aren't going to agree on this AND we're getting off topic, let me steer this convo back to the film

HNB: ok, so what else?

T:  ‪I think Andrew Garfield is the best thing since... um...hello!
Since the last hot man that lined up T's crane
HNB:  ‪he tried making money with the wrestling, and his Uncle ‪Ben got killed

T:  ‪AUNT MAY needs $$$, she's always on deaths door

HNB:  ‪OK, Garfield isn't that great, but he did a good job minus the spazziness.
I will always love Emma Stone. Killing Captain Stacey seemed extreme.
I don't think they should have had him reveal himself to Captain Stacey, because that's why they had to kill him off at the end.

T:  ‪Garfield was amazing, without him i would have been angry and flacid.  Have you seen the 13 reasons why Garfield is a better Spiderman?

HNB:  No, but now I have a boner too.  ‪I'm also intrigued with the Parker family plot line.  I think there was a line in the trailer that wasn't used in the movie...something about it not being an accident that Peter was bit by the spider.  Like it was planned.

T: it is too soon to retell origin, and I missed the line about the bite not being an accident!

HNB:  ‪I'm almost positive there was something in one of the trailers about that bite not being an accident.  I'm pretty sure it was said by the alligator dude. And it kinda seemed like they came back around to that at the end in the credits when the alligator guy was speaking to someone in the shadows....  anyhow, overall, Marvel is being consistent with the portrayal of Spiderman NOW

T:  ‪how queer, i don't remember any of that

HNB: And I mean ‪consistent between the movie, the Ultimate Spiderman cartoon, and the Avengers cartoon

T:  ‪i haven't seen those cartoons but I heard they were great..  probably from you

HNB:  ‪yeah, I did them, although Gwen Stacey isn't in the cartoon

T:  ‪Gwen's dead

HNB:  ‪but the portrayal of Spiderman himself is pretty consistent

T:  ‪speaking of Gwen, the chemistry between the two leads was great

HNB:  ‪17 years old high school student

T:  ‪HAHAHAHAHHAHAA! yeah right, that was ridiculous

HNB:  ‪well yeah, Emma Stone is awesome, she carried the movie

T:  ‪Andrew Garfield is pushing 30 and Emma Stone just looks mature

HNB:  ‪Tobey and Kirsten were more believable. did you like the plot?
Flaccid vs Rigid
T:  ‪eh, it was alight

HNB:  ‪did you like the dad crane worker who got all the cranes lined up for Spiderman? ‪I thought that was pretty cool

T:  ‪it was too soon to me for an origin ‪BUT I loved the effects and liked how he saved people

HNB:  ‪the effects were really good.  believable and not over the top

T:  ‪liked how he kept taking his mask off, The chemistry between the leads, and Sally Field. Overall B+. And most of that is because of Andrew Garfield. et toi?

HNB:  ‪yeah, B+.  was glad I saw it in the theaters.  Pretty great to get Sally Field and Martin Sheen!

T:  ‪eh

T:  ‪Martin Sheen was wasted in the "seen him die a billion times" role of  Uncle Ben

HNB:  ‪by the way, we saw it at a [a really good theater who's name will not be mentioned until their sponsorship of this column is finalized], have you been to one of those yet?

T:  ‪Yup. Awesome cinema experience

HNB:  ‪more expensive but fun and totally worth it

T:  ‪and comfy!  OK! thanks for joining me for this Instant Message Review! HA!

HNB:  ‪haha! sorry it wasn't that good of a review. I think the plot was pretty straight forward.  no real surprises. Did the reptiles think of that doctor as their master?  They didn't really explain why they all were on Spiderman's webs in the sewer before the doctor came crashing in

T:  ‪No they didn't. But enough gasbaggin',  TWL only has so much bandwidth. Good Day!

HNB: Later dude
