| My own freaky Japanese robot. |
It's said that Japanese scientists are busy developing robots as prototypes of humanoid machines that will one day help out with various tasks when the time comes that too many older people -- and too few younger people -- would otherwise leave many important tasks undone.
Here's a rogue's gallery of some of the strangest Japanese robots I've come across over the years.
Robo-freaks, after the jump!
First up is a (not so) little fellow, perhaps intended for childless couples, empty-nesters longing for a young-one at home again, or children eager for a sibling to boss around or beat up:
This one'll tend to your needs in the hospital ... and even give you a dirty look if you're not drinking enough fluids:
Courtesy of Toyota, this type of robot will entertain humans when generation-after-generation of cuts to arts programs render society devoid of citizens who know what a musical instrument is, much less how to play one:
And, finally for this week, there is hope for humankind after all. Because the Japanese have even thought of a way to deal with the nasty habit some robots have of posing a threat to human safety or dominance: simply deploy another robot to dispose of nefarious robot:

I love the clips. Kudos on this terrific piece!
Thanks Dan! You may not know, but I have our mutual friend from the old days in NYC, Erik, to thank for steering me in the direction of the cool Mechander Robo robot pictured at the top of my post. I had it as a kid and spent years searching for one again. He and his honey spotted one on eBay for me, and I finally own one again!
I love this one it is one of my on the shelf projects to bring a Robot store and museum to the USA, much like the ones they have in japan .. it is truly big and getting bigger and you tapped on a few of the key uses for robots.
they even have one now that you sit on like a chair for those who have no use of there legs and it acts as your legs very strange and cool.
That nurse one is creepy, if someone said it was a real person I'd believe them.
I'm a fan of football and have seen some pretty gnarly headbutts, but the one at 0:39 in the last video with the Japanese fighting robots has got to be the most awesome headbutts ever caught on film.
Hey Alan, you should post a link to that chair robot if you can. Gotta see that one!
